Troll threatens scared-to-death trio. By Neil (Newspaper Report)

When, the Three Billy Goats Gruff tried to get over Green Bridge, Mr. Troll of Pastures Green, managed to scare and nearly eat them. Here is Reporter Lindsay with our top story.

When the trio realized that their side of Pastures Green was completely bare of grass, they tried to go to the other side of the bridge where the grass was completely jam-packed full of grass. “We needed that grass” said Little Billy Goat Gruff. But when they got to the bridge, Mr. Troll pounced. “He was a big meany” said Middle-sized Billy Goat Gruff. Mr. Troll then threatened to eat them.
Little and Middle-Sized Billy Goat Gruff managed to get to the other side leaving a final showdown.

Big Billy vs. Mr. Troll, the perfect showdown. As our photographer passed, a giant fight erupted with Mr. Troll getting poked in the eye and thrown into Sunnybun Stream. “I only wanted some food” said Mr. Troll. “I haven’t eaten in about 2 weeks”.

Our Reporters, have found out that Mr. Troll is recovering in Supernatural Creatures Hospital. “I’ll get those goats some day” he said. Mr. Troll is now trying to sue the triumphant trio for blinding his eye and making him nearly drown.

The troll upset! By Luke (Newspaper Report)

On the 1st of October in Spain, Barcelona, three goats had been disturbing angry troll!

Mr. Troll under the bridge had been complaining all day about the racket of the three goat’s hoofs. Mr. Troll said that” I just need sleep but those goats keep trotting over my bridge when I just get to sleep.

The three goats said that” we just wanted to get some food to eat”. The police are trying to catch the three goats but when the police see the three goats there to fast. Mr. Troll had said that” if I here those rackety hooligans trotting on my bridge again I will have goat stew for dinner.

Its day two now with the goat investigation still in hand with the goats still not found. The troll is so furious that the goats haven’t been found that he went out to find the goats.

Down a road near the three goats were running from five police animals. There was a fat old pig, a cheeky fox, Shaun the sheep, domo, and bugs bunny. The five police animals split up and the three goats couldn’t run anywhere.

So the three goats got sent to jail for a year and the troll lived wonderfully.

Spash! Crash! Boom! By Maria and Skyler (Creative Writing)

The Current is a rollercoaster twisting and turning in all directions. The experienced kayaker zoomed down the track. This man was training for the 2012 London Olympics.

Splish! Splosh! He rapidly curved a sharp corner, heading for some rough rocks. He swerved around the jagged rocks so smoothly; he probably could have done it blindfolded!

Waves crashed onto the slim, sleek kayak, splashing onto the man’s sweaty face.

I can already see this man standing on the first place podium, with a gold medal dangling around his neck.

Man's Best Friend. By Elliott and Bethany (Creative Writing)

The man stared mysteriously at the flashing camera.
While the dog whimpered continuously. When they were doing that the vine was twirling tightly, it twisted like spaghetti round a fork.
Just as they took a photo a bird whistled in the tree
And the whole Barcelonan countryside came to life with allsorts of sounds. The breeze sang through the dogs teeth. The man sedated with the dog in his arms.
Then his wife ran outside. The old wooden door creaked and cracked, in and out, in & out. She wanted to see the new spaniel. “Where is the furry bundle?” She cooed gently. When she was saying that the man just stood there like a royal statue.

Human Machines by Neil and Connor (Creative writing)

The glistening pure saltwater was a rushing light, reflecting and shining, as the workers labored until their brains would soon overheat. The wood planks wobbled beneath them, as they pulled the dirty, green nets out of the galvanized steel pipes. The cliffs overlooked the green, spotted mainland, with white sandy beaches and tall, giant palm trees. The boats circle the main, rusty workboat, getting closer and closer, ordering the workers to go faster and faster, slower and slower. The dirty, fly-covered rags of the filthy slaves litter the wooden planks with dirt, germs and viruses. The jaded workers wish they can go back to their grass bivouacs and tiny, uncared children.

They truly are human machines.

Absolutely Amazing Art Attack Auction. By Neil (Newspaper report)

It was a great day today, as Red Beach School held their art auction, the first time in 2 years. This all happened on the 19 and 20th of September, at their hall.

Firstly, as everything starts hard, all the children put in their best efforts to achieve a piece of artwork that they were all proud of. They were then left to put up in the auction. The art included Venice Masks, Dream Time, Tapa Cloths, Clowns and Pottery Fish.

Next, the hall was changed to look a bit like an actual art gallery. Boards and Carpet were brought in to make the dramatic effect happen. Finally, the art was brought in and stapled to the boards. Worker Graham Townsend had this to say “It was hard work putting up all those art”.

When the actual hall opened to the public, most of the parents had already arrived and were bidding consistently. The Art Attack was a big success and some art like Ruben Wiki and Barbara Kendall’s drawings sold for a lot. The Auction closed with around $18,000 being raised.

Child artist, Neil Lindsay said “I’m glad to make art that raises money for the school”

American trooper jailed from shark attack. By Neil (Newspaper Report)

Yesterday, on our very own day of Independence, at Chicago, Illinois, USA, A killer great white shark almost bit off the head of American Trooper Bill Shrub with Shrub killing the shark and jailed for 5 years.

Squad 245 of the American army was on a rescue mission. Bill was on a rescue ladder at the time when the 248 kg Great White Monster attacked from behind. “I really hate sharks now” he said.

Reacting quickly, he pulled out his handy pocket knife and stabbed the endangered species in the eye before killing it. His friends in the squad realized he was doing something illegal and called the police. The squad would not let him back in the helicopter and the police surrounded the ladder in about 10 minutes. He was jailed for 5 years in Chicago International Prison and had his army status revoked

Our President, George .W. Bush, who was passing in his limo at the current time had this to say “If people continue this onslaught against the Great White Shark, we will never have any more of these Great Giants in any American waters so if jailing is the only way, we have to do, what we have to do”.

Two men, one shark, one survivor. By Maria (Newspaper Report)

Sunday 7th September

Two divers were taking photos of a Great white shark at 5:30 last night, underneath the Svinesund Bridge between Sweden and Norway, when something they were not counting on struck…

Two Swedish divers, Johan Lindberg and Anders Nilsson, had heard the news that a Great white was swimming just outside Sweden. The two men had never seen a Great white before, so they decided to take some photos of it, to sell and get millions. They weren’t sure how dangerous the shark could get, so they ordered a helicopter, just incase things got too dangerous.

“Vi vet inte hur det hende, fasst vi tog nara kort, och sen blev hajen irriterad och borjade simma efter oss” Said Johan Lindberg. In English it is, “We don’t know how it happened, but we took some photos and then the shark got irritated and started swimming after us” “Jag tror att kamra blixten var for gjust for hajen sa den blev arg pa oss” Translation: “I think the camera flash was too bright for the shark so it got angry at us”

The men signaled for the helicopter to come down and save them. But only one survived. Johan was on the ladder when Anders was still in the water. The shark leaped out of the water to attack. There was only one thing the pilot of the helicopter could do. The pilot lifted the helicopter so the shark would miss Johan and have Anders as its dinner.

As the shark swept passed Johan, the shark took Johan’s right leg with him. The shark then landed on Anders. “Jag kunde bara lyfta upp helicoptern for att anarsh skulle hajen ata boda” Translation: “I could only lift the helicopter up, because otherwise the shark would eat both” Said Lasse Lonsater, the pilot of the helicopter.

Leaving his friend, eaten in tragedy, Johan (in the helicopter) rushed to the nearest hospital, to get surgery on his right leg. The doctor said that the chances of the recovery are high, though they still need some medication on Johan to get the shark’s bacteria out.

The Iron Man. By Aimee (Creative Writing)

The Iron Man came on a natural Friday afternoon,
How did he get here? Nobody knows.
Who was he? Nobody knows.
Why was he here? Nobody knows.
Does he have a friend walking with him? Nobody knows.
Why am I asking all these questions? Even I don’t know.
The Iron Man sat at the top of a mountain. Gazing, scanning the land for any sign of blue, splashing waves. His legs stretched a massive distance. His arms were shaped like rulers but they were as long as the rolling fields. His eyes were like enormous cups and his head as round as a bouncy ball. The Iron Man was exhausted. But just as he was resting he saw a simmering glimpse of a blanket of blue. He lifted his metal arm pointed to the sea. Too far of a distance he thought. The blazing, burning sun reflecting on his iron head. He could imagine the wind rippling against the cool water, and the sand drifting and splitting across the sunny beach. The wind sang through his iron fingers, he slowly got up prepared and ready for the journey he was going to take.

How do our eyes work? By Aimee (Explanation)

When you look at something you see different shades of light, which makes colour.

First light travels through the Cornea so you can look though a clear window. Then it goes into the Iris only letting a certain amount of light pass through the Pupil, the Pupil is an open door to the Eye. Once it’s in the eye it travels to the Lens. The Lens job is to focus on the light rays. After that it gets sent to the Retina, the Retina takes the light that your eye receives and changes it into nerve signals. The nerve signals get sent to the Optic nerve that leads the nerve signals up a pipe to the brain.

They turn into nerve signals so when they get sent to the brain the brain can understand what you are seeing.

Cigarettes should be banned. By Maria (Persuasive writing)

Cigarettes should have never been invented. It is only a little tube, which you stick between your fingers. This little tube contains poison and addiction that you suck into you lungs…

Opinion 1: Cigarettes are unhealthy. If you smoke too much, you can die. It brings nothing but bad things. People just drop them anywhere. It creates litter as well.

Opinion 2: People think it’s cool to smoke. I think it’s cool not to smoke. Whenever I walk past a “cool” person who is smoking, I always have to hold my breath. It would be much easier if there were no cigarettes.

Opinion 3: People think it helps to wind down a window of a car, when they smoke. If they have kids in the back, it certainly does NOT help. The wind just pushes the smoke back into a car for people to breathe and get black lungs.

Conclusion: All cigarettes do is they kill people and brings pollution to the Earth. That is why I think cigarettes should be banned.

How Army Bay got its name. By Connor (Creative writing)

It was 1642, summertime, when the Europeans landed in there grand four mast galleons, they claimed the land there’s, but it was the horrible mistake, for the Maori folk owned the land when they discovered it 93 years ago but a child called Pakuera saw the Maori enemy and came to the village and warned everybody , nobody listened, ten minutes later they heard voices this could only mean one thing, battle.

Finally prepared for battle the war chiefs did a haka and sharpened there Tiaha and ran through the forest that they called home, shook there Tiaha and ran on to an unnamed beach, and took the attack side of the battle and after 3 bloody years the Maoris had overwhelmed the Europeans and the Europeans left battle worn galleon to tell the world how army bay got its name and that the Maoris should not be messed with.

For the first 1000 meters he said he felt great and put the hammer down to speed ahead. But at the last 500 meters he said his legs went to lead and slowed down, allowing Olaf Tufte of Norway to get gold and Ondrej Synek of the Czech Republic to grab silver.

A the end of the race Drysdale said “ The bronze medal- I highly value it because I know I put in a titanic effort”

Harry Vrooms to Third. by Neil (newspaper report)

It was a dramatic victory at the R B S Cross Country as Harry, 11 picked up 3rd in the Year 6 Cross Country event.

Harry of Room 11 started the race badly, barely getting past the rampage of other competitors. As soon as he got to Lucy Foster Lane he pulled the hammer down. “I gained a lot of places at that hill” he said.

He stayed with the leaders until he slowed down a bit allowing the leaders to round the corner onto Red Beach Road. After passing Red Beach Road and rounding onto the field he knew 1st and 2nd could not be taken. The race for 3rd was on.

On the final lap it was a very entertaining sprinting finish between best friends Harry and Alex W., also of Room 11, with Harry picking up the 3rd in dramatic style, Sam D. of Room 15 getting 2nd and Lewis G. of Room 9 grabbing 1st.

At the end of the race, Harry said “I did my best and that’s all I can ask for”.

Alex’s amazing race. by Maria (Newspaper report)

Alex, a year six student from R B S ran an amazing cross country race on Tuesday 19th August 2008.
Alex had beaten his personal best, and was placed fourth.

At round about 12’o’ clock on Tuesday 19th August 2008, Alex ( a year six student from R B Primary) did an awesome race in his own school.
“At the start of the race I thought, I can do this, I believe I can do this” Said Alex

At the beginning it was so muddy it was almost impossible to sprint. “I decided to run barefoot so it wouldn’t be as easy for my feet to get stuck.”

The runners had to run one lap around the school field, run up Lucy Foster, up Bay Vister, across Albert hall, down Red Beach Road, into the gate and run another lap around the field and into the finish line, “The easiest part was probably running along Bay Vister and Albert Hall.” Said Alex.

Alex said that he never went into a walk, he just kept his pace.

Alex crossed the finish line fourth. “I felt brilliant, I felt that I had done something HUGE!” Said Alex. “ I definitely felt proud, because last year I came 6th”

Alex walked off the field with a broad smile on his face.

Twins go for Gold! by Maria (Newspaper report)

It was too close to tell whether Germany or New Zealand got gold. The twins Caroline and Georgina Evers-Swindell (from New Zealand) were a hundredth of a second in front of Germany as they took the gold…

Caroline and Georgina Ever-Swindell entered the women’s double sculls flat water Olympics 2008. At the start of the race the twins didn’t get the greatest start. For quite a while they were coming 4th. The twins were still coming 4th when they crossed the quarter mark until, things were looking a bit different. Caroline and Georgina overtook the Chinese and the Brits.

The twins were catching up to the leaders, Germany. They were coming closer to the finish line. New Zealand had drawn up beside the Germans. Who was it going to be? The finish line was right in front of the boats. The first boat to cross the line was Germany. Or so they thought. The judges watched the replay in slow motion and... New Zealand won by a hundredth of a second! So the twins Caroline and Georgina got gold for New Zealand, Germany got silver and Great Brittan got bronze.

“At first I didn’t know that we had won, because I looked over and I saw the Germans were looking happy so, I thought they had got it” Says Georgina Ever-Swindell.
“All we did was that we tried our best and tried to improve by pushing a little bit harder every time” Says Caroline Evers-Swindell.

So that closes the amazing story to an end, about how the twins got gold in a hundredth of a second.

Great Girls Grab Gold by Neil (Newspaper Report)

It was a great day for New Zealand today, as Caroline and Georgina Ever-Swindell grabbed gold through a incredibly close photo finish.

For the first 500 meters the terrific twins weren’t doing so well, coming last up to the 500m mark. The next 500 meters got a bit better, cruising past most of the boats including champions China, but not the leaders Germany who lead for most of the race. The next 500 meters was a sort of a neck-to-neck race between the German and Kiwi crews.

The finish was a spectacular event as Germany and New Zealand arrived at the finish almost together, with Great Britain arriving as a definite third. It then went into a photo finish with New Zealand grabbing the gold with 1 millisecond to spare.

After the race the exhausted twins said “We didn’t know who won but as soon as we heard the word ‘new’ we knew we were Olympic Champions”

Twins take New Zealand’s first gold in the Beijing Olympics 2008 by James (newspaper report)

Two twins Caroline and Georgina fought to take 1st place in double sculls final. Germany just about took 1st place but the twins got there before them. Germany was gutted when they found out that the twins had taken gold. They were still happy that they had got silver. At the end of the race the judges didn’t know who won. As they looked at the finishing photo they announced that New Zealand had won. The sweating twins called out woo. Then they got interviewed they didn’t know how they won. At last New Zealand had finally got a medal.

Awesome writing this week Rm 11!

It's great to see some accurate newspaper reports about our experience on Tuesday. We'll talk about success criteria on Monday and our next learning steps.

Congratulations to Alex and Neil who have been prolific writers this week. They've been producing newspaper reports, persuasive writing as well as personal recounts.
Also to Alesha who has been copying and pasting the Success Criteria for personal recounts when she's been commenting on other people's work. This means she's really making valuable comments. If you haven't had a go at this, give it a go!

Finally, well done to Aimee, whose mum became the first parent to comment on our blog.

Looking forward to more tremendous writing next week. The Olympics make a great theme for your newspaper reports.

If you haven't got any of your work here yet, then maybe next week it's time to take a risk!

The Iron Man by Neil (creative writing)

The Iron Man.
He came from nowhere. His head. It would have broken the record for the world’s biggest basketball if it had not been mounted on that silvery tin can.
His ears. As sharp as swords in the still, silent night.
His nose. Like a nose ring, without the nose.
His eyes. So Lifelike. Exactly like a pair of human eyes. Except huge.
His mouth. Like a huge semi-circle girder, made up with bolts, stuck on with paste.
But that was just his head.
His body was incredible, or let’s say invincible. It was an iron tin can illuminated in the dark night.
His arms. Like strong steel pipes destroying everything in the Iron Man’s path.
And his legs. Short and stubby. They looked out of place on the terrifying Iron Man.
He had a guitar for some strange reason.
No one knows why.
We don’t know anything about him
At that point he was just a monster. Just a monster. Posing as a giant threat to Earth.
Something that could destroy the world.

We should have a school pool by Neil (Persuasive Writing)

Kids have fun in pools. I believe that Red Beach School should have a pool.

Firstly, It’s well known that kids are quite unhealthy. Swimming around for 30 minutes is actually quite a lot of fitness.

Secondly, adults save money. Having to pay $3. 50 to go on a bus to the pool is a lot. Those bus drivers must be desperate. $3.50! Rip off.

Thirdly, and most important, kids have fun. Playing about in wobbly water with noodles and rings is a heap of fun.

In conclusion I believe R.B.S. should have a pool.

How The Nose Works by Neil (Explanation)

As a food or anything gets nearer your body, your nose sucks up the smell into the nose.

The nose has series of rigged passageways, so the smell goes haywire around the nose. As soon as the smell enters the nose, the process begins to happen.

When you breathe a smell gets sucked in through holes called the nostrils, past thousands, maybe millions of tiny hairs called cilia. The smell then passes through a giant space called the nasal cavity, passing the snot-making mucos membrence. The smell then gets sucked into a processor called the olfactory epithelium, which is where smells are sorted and gets turned into signals. Then the smell travels down the olfactory nerve, which connects to the olfactory bulb. It stays in the olfactory bulb for a few milli- milli seconds before it shoots of to the brain.

The brain can now identify the smells and see if they are good or bad!

Why I Think Homework Should Be Banned!!! by Yasmin (Persuasive Writing)

Most children get was too much homework. Hears four reasons why I think homework should be band.

Firstly, I think homework should be band because kids need to exercise not sit down after school doing homework.

Secondly, kids are doing school work all day, and then have to go home and do more work . . . . . HOMEWORK!!!!!

Thirdly, some kids are really busy in the week, and when its Thursday night and kids have not done there homework, mums and kids get really really stressed.

Most kids dislike it.

That’s my four reasons why I think horrible, hard and silly homework should be banned.

Some beads on a traditional Samoan lei presented at a powhiri at Jean Batten Primary School classified as toxic.

“We believe the three students were touching a bead lei, that may have irritated their allergies” says principle of Jean Batten, Mr. Jeff Bruce. For safety, all of the teachers and the kids were evacuated from the incident scene, the hall. The Powhiri, (welcome) was cancelled. The fire brigade came to check the hall was safe and said that the bead lei was committed guilty.

Cigarettes should be destroyed by Alex (persuasive writing)

Cigarettes should be destroyed because…

Firstly because nicotine is very, very bad for the heart because it blocks breathing space and also leaves less room for your blood to pump throughout your body.

Secondly because smoking can damage the health of your kids and also kids just absolutely hate the smell of smoke.

Thirdly because all your really doing is breathing smoke and getting closer and closer to an earlier death so I think it’s pretty dumb and it wastes money.

Fourthly because it makes heaps and heaps of pollution and I think in 500 years it could destroy the earth!

In conclusion I think cigarettes can kill families and can damage people’s lives so they shouldn’t be sold and destroyed forever!

Sick Kids by Harry (Newspaper report)

At Jean Batten primary school in mangere two boys and one girl got affected by toxic beads.

The kid soon after got sent to middle more hospital .the three kid had swollen eyes and bad rashes round about 11am.

Later that after noon the there kids went home and they were all better that after noon.

Animals shouldn’t be kept in Zoos by Alex (Persuasive Writing)

I think animals shouldn’t be kept in zoos because it’s cruelty to animals.

Firstly they need to be in the natural habitats because they need to feel happy and not feeling watched.

Secondly they need the fresh air and the wind in their face because it’s sad to keep animals in cages for their whole lives.

Thirdly they need to be in wide open spaces because they need the stretch their legs and run around because they need a lot of exercise.

In conclusion, I think that animals should not be kept in zoos because they need to be happy and not being held in captivity for their whole lives.

Terror on a pole! by Alex (personal recount)

My hand were shaking, my feet were slipping I felt like an ice cube sliding across the floor. Up and up the treacherous pegs went. “I feel like a person who just got scared by a ghost” I said to my self.
“I can do it I will, I must, I just have to make it.” Finally after all that perseverance and taking risks I made it to the top. “WOW! It’s so high up here!” I said to myself.

Now my feet were really trembling. I was sticking to the pole like a snail on the pavement. I was getting strapped in then finally the moment came. My heart was beating like rhinoceroses charging through a quiet town at night.
“O.K, I can do this, I will jump.”
For a second there I thought my heart might jump out of my chest.
I leaned backwards and….
I was off flying. Hooning down the super fox.
(it was so fast I felt like a bullet slicing through the cool air.)
my hair was flying back and I was getting a major wedgie!

Suddenly I started slowing down like a puppy drifting off to sleep.
Then I stopped, wondering what I should do.

The freezing cold snow by Harry (personal recount)

I was there standing in the freezing ice cold snow with a snow board and never gone on one before. I looked at the long treadmill that took me up but not very far. I was at the top known I clipped on my snow board and down the hill. And then I got ready to stop but ohh no I don’t know how to stop and it was no use trying because in seconds I was flat on my face lying there freezing just like I have frost bite. I tried again and again but no luck just the same I was almost about to give up but I just had to do it again. So up I went and the most amazing thing happened I did it I got down with out falling over. And after a while I thought if snow boarding is fun skiing must be also me so I got the skies and it was the best thing I have ever done. I was doing it for hours and then my brother said go to the top so I said ok and into the line the line looked long but it went really fast .and then I hopped on and in moments I was up the top. When I looked up down there it didn’t look so far but when I was up there it looked two times longer than it was at the bottom. and then I said 1 2 3 and go my heart was beating like the speed off light just how fast I was going down down and across the place faster than all the pros but then I thought how do I stop and then I saw people swerving so I started to swerve and it worked but not much so I curled up and fell to the side. I was at the bottom and I looked at the time and it was 8.23 and I thought it’s time to go home now.

The Hot pools by Alesha (personal recount)

I was so angry the leisure center was closed so off to the hot pools we went. Finally we were there at first mum got angry at the guy at the front desk because he charged my mum $8.00 just to watch us swim. First we went to the lava pools.

SPLASH!!!! I went flying out of the gut buster. I was just about to swim back when BANG. Ouch I started to cry I had just got banged in the stomach by our American student’s feet at full speed. At the end of the day we went to get changed.

The Terror Ride by Maria (personal recount)

My stomach turned over. My hands were like magnets, not wanting to let go of the handle. I was shaking like an earthquake. The fatal rollercoaster had begun. The ride zoomed around a corner leading to a long white track going up. It carried me so high I was nearly in the dark, dreamy space. “I am DOOMED!” I thought. “If a rollercoaster goes up that means that it’ll go…” I gulped.

I was sweating like mad by now. Sweat was just spurting and spitting like a volcano. I just couldn’t say it. I just couldn’t. I squeezed my eyes shut and I clutched the handle so hard, I would guess that I would have been stronger than Hercules! I held my breath as the deathly rollercoaster tilted downward. “Okay, this is defiantly the end of my life now.” The fire red rollercoaster raced down as I screamed so loud the whole world could probably hear.

This is the worse part, the ride did a massive loop which really annoyed my stomach. I felt that I would throw up in any minute.

The rollercoaster did two frightening cork screws and that made me scream like and elephant getting an injection. “Come on please finish now!” Then a miracle happened. I couldn’t believe my luck. The brakes went on. EEEEEEEEEE!!!
And the unbelievably scary rollercoaster narrowed to the starting point. When it reached inside, the handle bars robotically rose up. “Phew!” I thought, “I am never doing that again!” But just as I was getting out, the bars went down.

“OH NO!” My stomach turned over. I shook like an earthquake. “Oh great, here I go again!

The Luge by Ella (personal recount)

Zoom beep crash bang. The track was right in front of me. As I speed up my sharp wheels curved like feathers on an eagle. All I was focusing on was the end. I and my dad where neck to neck I banged my dads cart crash!!!!!!!!!!!! Bang I won wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Want another race a no thanks.

The Danger Bike by Bethany (personal recount)

I was a young girl. I was home alone. Boom boom boom. Hit the ground. Suddenly my mum barged in from the air. She shouted “get on your bike now”. So I did. I guessed that I wouldn’t have a choice any way. I held the bike so it wouldn’t fall on me. Then I was on. I reached for the bar and pushed the pedals. Luckily mum was holding on. Mum was running and kept on running with me. Her hand slipped away from the bar. I looked behind me to see were she was. Few! She’s holding the seat. I thought I was alone. I remembered what mum said. “Push the pedals fast”. So I did. Then I wondered how my mum could run so fast. I turned the bike. I could see her. I was terrified. Then I started to go really fast. But I went to fast. I lost control of the bike. Ouch! I fell of. “Well done” said mum. I knew this was going to be a while to learn.

Scared on the Climbing pole by James (Personal Recount)

I was not scared I started then it dawned in on me I was scared of heights!!! I climbed a little higher. My head was pounding with thoughts is he going to drop me? Will I be okay? I couldn’t move I couldn’t find anymore grips that I could hold onto. I was sweating all over I want to come down I thought. Our instructor was shouting don’t give up you can do it” finally I found a grip. I was flying I was almost at the top when a thought struck me don’t look down. I was now rooted to the spot I want to come down I shouted but the “instructor but the instructor encouraged me I reached the top I had conquered the climbing pole.

Conclusion evolution by Skyler (Personal Recount)

I was looking at the starting position; the golf ball was in my left hand and the club with the right. My hands were sweaty and they were starting to ache. I felt a cold breeze sweep past my face like spirits were enclosing me. I carefully put the ball down and hit the ball with the club. It went up a ramp… and back down again right from where I started. I hit it again and the same thing happened every time I hit it. This was really getting on my nerves. I hit it really hard this time but this time it went over the ramp and near the hole. (Finally) so I tried to hit the ball in the hole but it missed. I hit it again and it missed the hole. I think this would be probably par 1,000,000 I looked at the sign and it said par 2 that made me even more frustrated. So I came up with a conclusion and that conclusion was: next time don’t do the black course!

Frustration by Yasmin (Personal Recount)

Netball… could it really be that hard I thought at half time. All the time when I try to shoot a goal I jump twist and bounce, but I can never get a goal! I feel all fuzzy inside when somebody passes the silky silver smooth ball to me, and feel even fuzzier when I think I’m going to drop it! (But normally I don’t drop it.)

Wizz I tumble over the grey seat. Suddenly my good gorges coach says to me “come on second half is on.” So as her saying that droop my tired drowsy legs onto the stiff concrete court somebody in my team threw the perfectly round shaped ball at me… waking my half asleep drowsiness! I quickly throw the silver smooth silky ball into the fog, into my surprise it sounds like the hoop is calling the ball, and guess what… it went into the goal!!!!

Nothing is going right by Neil (Personal Recount)

They couldn’t. They couldn’t do this dreadful deed. Yet they had. And there was no way out. During my time at Shakespeare Park, it had been a bad day.

Trod, trod, trod. Sing, sing, sing. Trod, trod, trod. That’s all my parents had done. And yet surprising, it was boring. Why had they done this? Maybe all the adults were robots, but that was unlikely. We were stopped at the marvelous, breath taking waterfall. My parents wanted to look at it. How lame is that? For 15 mins we were stuck here with only leaves to play with. After that boring 15 mins Dad said “Alright lets go”. “Yay!!!” I screamed. Everybody looked at me but we still went trodding along.

Plop. Plop, Plop. Plop, Plop, Plop. That was the sound of a big, smelly, floppy sheep dropping. What by? Our feet. “Look!” said Dad. “A lookout!” We all sprinted (Mum and Dad walked) to the old adomened lookout. We decided to have our boring lunch here. We all had cheese, lettuce and tomato sandwiches. Disgusting! But now the good part was coming. Chocolate! Sweet, Sweet, Brown, Scrumptious chocolate! Looked in the bag. No chocolate. I looked in the rucksack. No chocolate. I looked in Mum’s handbag. No chocolate. So I hanged my head down in shame and headed to the beach.

Beaches. How could they be closed and blocked of? Impossible. Or so I had said. But this one was. A beautiful, colorful, glistening, shiny beach. And it was blocked off. What next? A giant, pink, dancing elephant? How could it be worse? So very slowly, I very sadly trundled towards the car.

The car. Home time. The best fun I had all day. Finally something good was happening. But looking back… What a boring day!!!!

Eruption! by Aimee

Eruption by Aimee. (Personal Recount)

The light flashed green several times. We all slowly creped inside the tiny batch house wondering what it was doing in the middle of the Volcano exhibit. Suddenly the large television automatically switched on, our eyes stuck to the screen. A news reporter and a Scientist were explaining about smoke coming out of Rangitoto’s volcano and saying the possibilities of it exploding were minor. Then the cameras switched over to people evacuating their homes and lining up with all the traffic surging over the motorway. Just at that moment the television disconnected, the lights flickered and faded out then somehow the house shock violently back and forth, the over head projector showed Rangitoto spitting out lava rocks and it also showed the aftermath. When it finished the lights came back on so we continued through the Museum.
